Oh boy, did things get hot quickly with the trade deadline. There are many trades to go through, from blockbusters to small additions. Without wasting any time, let's get into it!

(Small note, after seeing what number prospect a player was on their team, if you see MLB, then thats what number prospect they are in the topp 100 according to MLB pipeline.

The Yanks look to make their pen the best

Yankees receive: RHP Scott Effross

Cubs receive: RHP Hayden Wesneski (NYY #7 prospect)

This trade should help the Yanks strengthen their already solid bullpen. Effross so far has a 2.66 ERA on the year. He is a 28 year old rookie, and luckily for the Yankees he is under club control for five more years. Also, since joining the Yanks he has only given up one hit and no runs in two innings of work. The Yankees have plenty of righties so I think this was just a matter of bolstering the pen in general. Moving on to who they moved, Hayden Wesneski was in AAA with the Yankees and has a 6-7 record with an ERA of 3.51, so he doesn't need much work to get the callup in my opinion.

Hader moves to a new bullpen

Padres Receive: LHP Josh Hader

Brewers receive: LHP Taylor Rodgers, LHP Robert Gasser (Prospect), RHP Dinelson Lamet, OF Esteury Ruiz

This trade came out of nowhere, and is the first big move to happen as the deadline approaches. However, the Brewers actually have been wanting to get rid of Hader for a while according to Bob Nightengale on twitter who said, "The Brewers told teams last month they would listen on All-Star closer Josh Hader." This is apparently due to the Brewers wanting to avoid his huge pay raise that would come in his arbitration hearing this winter. This year has been the worst season of Hader's career, having an ERA of 4.24 and letting up 10 ER in his last 7 appearances. The one plus out of him so far is that in his first appearance he pitching a hitless inning. Moving on to what the Brewers received, Taylors Rodgers currently has a 4.25 ERA in 42.1 innings of relief, and Dinelson Lamet has a 9.49 ERA in 12 innings. Also, Lamet was DFA'd right after the Brewers got him, and the Rockies picked him up. Robert Gasser was in double A with the Padres where he had a 4.18 ERA. Lastly, Esteury Ruiz, who was recently called up to the bigs on July 11, has hit for a batting average of .222 in the majors, but has been sent down to AAA following the trade.

Montas joins the elite Yanks rotation

Yankees receive: RHP Frankie Montas, RHP Lou Trivino

A's receive: LHP Ken Waldichuk (NYY #5 prospect), LHP J.P. Sears, RHP Luis Medina (NYY #10 Prospect), 2B Cooper Bowman

The Yankees also needed help with their starting pitching, so as you can tell they generally struggled with pitching up to this point. Montas was one of the biggest names when it comes to starting pitchers available at the deadline, along with Luis Castillo who went from the Reds to the Mariners. The A's have been the worst team in baseball up to this point due to selling their entire team in offseason, and I guess they are doing the same thing at the deadline. So far this season, Montas has had a decent ERA but hasn't had the defense or offense to back him up, leading to his record being 4-9 with a 3.18 ERA. Trivino will be some bullpen help and there is no need to go over his stats. J.P. Sears is the only guy out of all four to have gotten big league playtime, and the 26 year old has a solid 2.05 ERA in seven innings so far. Unfortunately this is because he has been injured, but it shows he has potential to be a big help. Moving on to the only other notable person moved to Oakland, Ken Waldichuk is currently in triple A and has made 11 starts there so far this year, posting a 2-3 record accompanied by a 3.59 ERA, as well as a 3.04 strikeout-to-walk ratio. These stats happen to show that he almost ready to step into the limelight and make his first career start in the bigs at the young age of 24.

Mancini joins a contender

Astros Receive: 1B/OF Trey Mancini, RHP Jayden Murray (from Rays)

Orioles Receive: RHP Seth Johnson (from Rays), RHP Chayce McDermott (from Astros)

Rays receive: CF Jose Siri (from Astros)

This trade was out of nowhere as the Mets were the favorite to get Mancini the the minds of most baseball fans, but here we are. Mancini is most likely going to be more of a DH than an actual fielder because that what he was seen as to most teams pursuing him. So far Mancini has been a key piece to the Orioles team, putting up a batting average of .268, which is a little bit better than what he had last year, so he is improving! So far Mancini has made a big impact, as he jacked two homers in his debut leading the Astros to a 9-3 win. Otherwise, the O's sent down both guys they got, and I didn't expect to see the Rays insert themselves into this trade.

Vazquez being left in Houston

Astros receive: C Christian Vazquez

Red Sox receive: 3B Enmanuel Valdez, OF Wilyer Abreu

It seems like Astros goal this deadline was to get the guys that were on the Mets radar. The Astros are certainly struggling right now at catcher with their best catcher being Martin Maldonado at the moment. The sad thing about this is that Vazquez was informed that he was traded whilst in an interview about it being speculated he was being traded. Besides the fun facts, Vazquez has actually been hitting really good for a catcher, having a .278 average accompanied by a .425 SLG. However, in his two games of hitting he is 0 for 5, so not the best start. For the Red Sox, Enmanuel Valdez happens to be a really good pickup, as in triple A this year he is batting almost .300 and his slugging is over .500! Abreu just seems to be a speed specialist as based on his stats he is a run of the mill hitter, but has 23 stolen bases this season in double A.

Red Sox make a depth move

Red Sox receive: OF Tommy Pham

Reds receive: Player to be named later or cash considerations

With Tommy Pham it seems like he was more of a depth piece because the Sox already have five at least decent outfielders. However, with the addition of Pham's right-handed bat, the Red Sox can now have an outfield of only lefties, and an outfield of only righties. Pham is an average hitter besides that so all I have to say about this since the package going to the Reds isn't specified yet.

Reese McGuire replaces Vazquez

Red Sox receive: C Reese McGuire

White Sox receive: LHP Jake Diekman

This is in correlation to the Red Sox trading their star catcher Vazquez, as besides Kevin Plawecki they don't have much else going for them at catcher. The one positive for Reese McGuire here since the Red Sox have been on such a bad streak is that he will still be on a Sox team! I mean if you want to call that a positive. The former 14th overall pick has average hitting stats for a catcher, having a .234 average, but has caught eleven people stealing out of the twenty-five that have went on him. Also, he has made a big impact in Boston as of now, so this trade may help the Red Sox a lot. For the Sox in Chicago, they are getting a veteran presence in their bullpen with Jake Diekman. Diekman has a 5-1 record out of the pen so far this year and has an ERA of 4.02. He's pitching just a bit worse than last year where his ERA was 3.86, but it shows consistency in some form.

Minnesota starts to bolster their bullpen

Twins receive: RHP Jorge Lopez

Orioles receive: LHP Cade Povich (MIN #22 Prospect) RHP Yennier Cano, RHP Juan Nunez, LHP Juan Rojas

This was the first of a few pitching moves for the Twins, and this is actually a solid bullpen addition. Jorge Lopez being an all star this year was not for no reason, as he currently has a 1.79 ERA along with 20 saves. This season is his best by a mile, as his best ERA in a season before this was in 2017 at 4.50. Whatever training he did in the offseason paid off for sure. Also, this move will help with the teams 3.91 bullpen ERA. On the Orioles end, they aren't getting anything that special, Cade Povich is 6-8 in sixteen starts with a 4.46 ERA. That most likely explains why the High A player was barely in the top 25 list of team prospects. However, Yennier Cano has an ERA of 1.90 in Triple A, but he is getting mashed in the majors. In ten games Cano has a 9.22 ERA, so he needs lots of work to get to major league material.

Juan Soto moves in a blockbuster

Padres receive: OF Juan Soto, 1B/DH Josh Bell

Nationals receive: SS CJ Abrams (SD #1 Propsect), LHP MacKenzie Gore (SD #4 Propsect), OF Robert Hassell III (SD #2 Propsect, MLB #21), OF James Wood (SD #3 Propsect, MLB #87), RHP Jarlin Susana (SD #14 Prospect), 1B Luke Voit (replaces Eric Hosmer who refused to waive his no trade clause to go to WSH)

Every year we get a blockbuster, and this year it was none other than Juan Soto. There was so many switch arounds in who was the favorite to get him, some of those teams being the Mets, Dodgers, and Yankees. However, the Padres would end up getting Soto and Josh Bell, one of the top DH's on the market. This trade had a bumpy road to completion, that being with Eric Hosmer denying to go to D.C., but in the end it still worked out and Luke Voit replaced him. Now without a doubt, Soto has already made a huge impact in Slam Diego, batting .364 in 3 games. Whilst that is a light amount of games, it shows how well he will slot into this team once it is fully healthy. Soto was batting .246 with the Nats and racked up twenty one home runs, which would lead to him winning this years derby. Josh Bell is also doing a lot in his first three games, batting .375, which shows why he is batting .303 over the entire year. He is going to be a consistent DH that you can always rely on. Now, the Nationals mainly got guys that will help them be good in a few years. Starting off with CJ Abrams, he is considered to be one of the biggest future stars of the league, and it's easy to see why. He was batting .232 in the majors until he was sent down when he got traded to DC, but in AAA he is batting .306 with a .853 OPS. He also is speedy with a total of eleven stolen bases. Moving on to the biggest pitching prospect in the trade, Mackenzie Gore was at first used as a starter in the bigs, but for the last couple of weeks before he was traded, he was in the pen. In thirteen starts and 70 innings, Gore has a 4-4 record with a 4.50 ERA. James Wood is batting .327 in single A, and Susana is in the FCL so he has a long way to go. Luke Voit has been a solid player this year, and is going to be the power bat of the team.

Blue Jays get a pair of Marlins righties

Blue Jays receive: RHP Anthony Bass, RHP Zach Pop

Marlins receive: SS Jordan Groshans (TOR #4 Propsect, MLB #81)

The Marlins aren't even close to being a playoff contender so this trade is just them trying to sell a bit since they are most likely not making the wild card. The Blue Jays though are contending for a wild card spot, and their bullpen ERA is currently 3.88, so it needs some work. Zach Pop does need some work, but he is still very young. This year he is 2-0 out of the pen with a 3.27 ERA in 22 innings. However, compared to the second year reliever, the veteran Anthony Bass is having a career year. In 46.1 innings of work Bass has a 1.55 ERA and an opponent batting average of .196, which will be a huge help in the pen. The Jays already have plenty of righties in their bullpen, so this wasn't a move for a righty arm because they already have plenty. Moving on to who is being sent from Canada all the way to the bottom of the USA, Jordan Groshans is mainly a consistency guy. His average is .248 and there is nothing else notable about him.

Bronx Bust heads to the best in the NL

Dodgers receive: OF Joey Gallo

Yankees receive: RHP Clayton Beeter (LAD #15 Propsect)

Ah yes, Joey Gallo, a man who couldn't have been any worse in the Bronx than how he was playing. Gallo was hitting over .200 when he was in Texas, but everything changed once he came to the Bronx. This year was his first whole year with them, and he was batting a whopping .159, and had struck out in 38.8% of his AB's. The prayer for the Dodgers is that he finally becomes a good hitter, and isn't rarely making an impact, but yet more commonly. The Yankees aaren't getting anything special in return, as so far in his starts in AA Beeter has a 5.75 ERA with a 0-3 record. Another thing that Beeter needes work on is his ability to go further into a game, he has only gone 4 innings at most this year.

Picky player finds the right fit

Red Sox receive: 1B Eric Hosmer, 2B Max Ferguson (SD #11 Propsect), OF Cory Rosier (SD #26 Prospect), Cash considerations

Padres receive: LHP Jay Groome

Eric Hosmer still ended up getting traded to a different team, but this time he agreed to get rid of his no trade clause. I am puzzled about why the Red Sox got so many prospects, but whatever reason it is they got a bargain. Hosmer has been good this year, batting .267 which is right around what he usually hits each year. He will probably slot in at DH instead of first base. The prospects though are good. Max Ferguson is an absolute speed demon on the base pads. This year he already has a whopping 56 stolen bases halfway through the year! Besides that the High A second baseman is a decent hitter, but Cory Rosier is a good hitter. Rosier has a .260 average in High A this year, and also has 35 stolen bases! The Red Sox have a big future in the speed category. Jay Groome is a decent starter, having a 3.61 ERA and 4-5 record in18 starts. The prospects are probably given to persuade the Red Sox to take on Hosmers contract.

Halos get a good deal

Phillies receive: OF Brandon Marsh

Angels receive: C Logan O'Hoppe (PHI #3 propsect, MLB #85)

The Phillies definitely needed Marsh because they are currently struggling with their outfield. However, this deal did not require them giving up this type of prospect. Marsh was injured for a good chunk of the year, and is having a decent second year in the league. Last year he batted for .254, but this year he is at .228, so he dropped off a bit. He still should be a solid addition to the Phillies outfield besides these stats. The Angels are getting one hell of a player in the form of Logan O'Hoppe. He is currently on a tear this year, batting .272 with a .500 SLG. That slugging is accompanied by 16 home runs, which is a good amount for a catcher. At the end of the day, I see this trade as an absolute win for the Angels.

The Mets gain some more DH firepower, for too much?

Mets receive: 1B Darin Ruf

Giants receive: 3B/DH JD Davis, LHP Thomas Szupacki, LHP Nick Zwack (NYM top 30 prospect), RHP Carson Seymour (NYM top 30 prospect)

The Metropolitans have been DH focused this trade deadline, looking to make it better as it has been a lacking spot. In general the bottom of the Mets lineup has been a struggle, so adding Darin Ruf will help. Ruf has split his time this year between playing first base, left field, and DH, but in New York he will mainly be a DH or first baseman on the days Pete Alonso needs a break. Ruf has been great this year against lefties, currently having a .891 OPS against them. However, he has only played one game for the Mets so far and besides that has pinch hit. The Giants are getting the Mets DH in return, that being JD Davis, who has had a decent year. He is batting .238, but returning to his home town seemed to help him instantly, as he hit a homerun in his first game with San Fran. Besides JD Davis, I think the Mets over payed with giving up three prospects along with Davis. Szupacki has been decent this year, having a 2-6 record in 16 starts along with a 3.43 ERA in AAA, but it gets really confusing when you get to the single A prospects. Nick Zwack currently is 6-2 with a 2.69 ERA in 16 starts, but also has a save to his name. Carson Seymour is also in the same area of all those stats but he is instead 5-6. So in my opinion, I think this was an over pay for Ruf.

Phillies snatch an upgrade for the pen

Phillies receive: RHP David Robertson

Cubs receive: RHP Ben Brown (PHI #26 prospect)

David Robertson was yet another player that was possibly going to the Mets, but instead was traded to an NL East rival. Robertson has been a beast in the Cubs bullpen, and will be the closer that the Phillies have needed. Jeurys Familia has not gone to plan this year, so Robertson is the replacement for him. Robertson currently has 15 saves and a 2.13 ERA, which is marks his best season since 2017 where he also got traded at the deadline from the White Sox to the Yankees. So whilst the Phillies are getting a reliever for the now, the Cubs are getting a starter for later. Ben Brown is currently in AA, and was called up from single A on August 2. Currently this year, Brown is 3-5 with a 3.00 ERA on the dot in 15 starts, so he shows some promise to be a great starter down the road.

Twins get the second Reds starter of the deadline

Twins receive: RHP Tyler Mahle

Reds receive: 2B Spencer Steer (MIN #7 prospect), LHP Steven Hajjar (MIN #18 prospect), 3B Christian Encarnacion-Strand (MIN #23 prospect)

It seems like the main goal for the Twins in this years deadline was to fix their pitching issues that they currently see. The Twins pitching definitely needs some work, as it currently has a combined ERA of 4.04, so this move should help them a lot. Tyler Mahle has definitely been impacted by the bad defense of the Reds, and he is being hit off of like a tee. He has a 4.49 ERA, and it needs lots of work, however this move should benefit him since he will have a good defense to back him up. He will also have a better catcher calling his pitches, as Tyler Stephenson has unfortunately been out for the majority of the year. The only two prospects we will talk about are Spencer Steer and Christian Encarnacion-Strand, as they are the two most notable players out of the three. We will start off with Spencer Steer, who is currently in AAA and is a huge power bat. The twenty-four year old currently is batting .274 and has 20 homers on the year, that being followed up by a .521 SLG. The Reds could definitely use a second baseman, so if Steer keeps this up, we could see him in the big leagues soon. Moving onto Encarnacion-Strand who is currently in AA, and he is raking. The former fourth round pick is batting .305 with 26 home runs on the year, which leads to him having a .616 SLG! This guy looks like he is going to be a star in the big leagues, and it is clear to see why.

Thor dons a new cape

Phillies receive: RHP Noah Syndegaard

Angels receive: OF Mickey Moniak, OF Jadiel Sanchez

This man could not have come back to the NL east at a better time, because in a week he is going to be facing his former team, the New York Mets. Syndegaard is in his first year since leaving this Mets, and he has now already been on two teams. So far this year, Syndegaard has not been in his best form, and he hasn't been since coming back from Tommy John. This year Thor is 6-8 with a 4.02 ERA and a .258 opponent AVG, so opponents are hitting well off him. The Phillies hope to contend for an NL wild card spot this year, and this seems to be their way of helping their cause. In return they gave former number one overall pick Mickey Moniak and Jadiel Sanchez. Moniak has actually been playing in the majors recently, and seems to have a solidified spot in the outfield with the Angels. However, he does need some work hitting as his MLB average is only .167, but hopefully he will get the hang of things soon. Jadiel Sanchez is currently in single A and he doesn't have many notable things to talk about, so onto the next trade!

Padres add on another solid player

Padres receive: 3B Brandon Drury

Reds receive: SS/2B Victor Acosta

Cincinnati, hold on to your seats, your team just got even worse. The Reds in the offseason practically let their entire team go, and at this years trade deadline things were no different. Brandon Drury has been one of if not the most crucial player in the Reds lineup. Drury has 21 home runs this year and a slugging of over .500, so he has been the power bat of the Reds team. He also has some pretty consistent hitting, that claim backed up by his .269 AVG this year. Also, a good note is that in his first at-bat with the Padres, he hit a grand slam because why not? He's in Slam Diego for crying out loud! It's what you're supposed to do! The man leaving Slam Diego hasn't played since leaving there, and before being traded Acosta was in the ACL league. He has no notable things to talk about, so that's all I got on this trade.

Twins get another bullpen arm

Twins receive: RHP Michael Fulmer

Tigers receive: RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long

This would be the final piece to the Twins bulk up of pitching, and it was one to gain the presence of an experienced pitcher. Fulmer, now in his sixth year in the majors, has always been up and down, but this year he is pitching just like he was last year, solid. This year he has pitching 42 innings and has an ERA of 3.00 on the dot. The Twins now look like a solid bullpen force and should be able to boost their AL Central lead with these transactions. Sawyer-Gipson Long has a good record, but his ERA makes you question why his record is so good. In AA this year, he has an 8-6 record, but it is followed up by a 4.09 ERA, which is puzzling to say the least. He was called up from high A earlier this year where he was on a tear and had an ERA of 1.99. However, once he got to AA he was beat to a pulp, ending his spell with the Wind Surge at an ERA of 7.17. His first start though for the Erie SeaWolves looks promising, as in five innings Gipson-Long only let up one run on four hits.

The Cards get a new top starter

Cardinals receive: LHP Jordan Montgomery

Yankees receive: OF Harrison Bader, second player or cash considerations

This move is also very confusing to me, this is due to Harrison Bader being out until September, and the Yankees having struggled with their pitching in July. However, Jordan Montgomery has actually been half-decent and one of the bright spots of the Yankees rotation, having a 3.53 ERA and only 1.81 walks per nine innings. He also tore up the Yankees in his Cardinals debut, pitching five scoreless innings en route to a win. For the Yankees, they are getting an amazing outfielder in Harrison Bader. He has made plenty of flashy plays in the outfield throughout his career, however, he unfortunately hasn't played since the end of June. Before he was injured though, he had a .256 AVG and has made no errors in the outfield this year, so that shows his skill.

Mets only get pen support from the Cubs

Mets receive: RHP Mychal Givens

Cubs receive: RHP Saul Gonzalez

This move has not worked out well for the Mets so far, due to Givens not being able to adjust that well to a new team. Before moving to Queens, he had a ERA of 2.66, but since joining the Mets he has given up six runs in 2.2 innings. I think that he can still do good this year, but he just needs to adjust to being in the Mets bullpen. Saul Gonzalez however has been great out of the bullpen this year, having a 2.89 ERA in single A. His opponents have only hit for .243 off of him, so that is just above average out of other pitchers. Gonzalez would be the fourth and final pitching prospect the Mets would cough up this deadline.

Jays get some veteran talent

Blue Jays receive: 2B Whit Merrifield

Royals receive: 2B/OF Samad Taylor, RHP Max Castillo

Whit Merrifield had to get vaccinated for this move to go through, so lets hope for his sake it was worth it. The two time all-star has had the worst year of his career this year, but that doesn't mean he has been terrible. His batting average is .244 and he has 16 stolen bases, so in the end he still isn't terrible. In return, the Royals are getting two decent guys. Samad Taylor is a speedy infielder with some solid hitting, having stolen 23 bases and batting for a .258 AVG in AAA this year. Also, Max Castillo has been great in AAA this year as a starter, currently having a 5-1 record with a 2.37 ERA.

Braves make their pitching staff more lethal

Braves receive: RHP Raisel Iglesias

Angels receive: RHP Jesse Chavez, LHP Tucker Davidson

We have finally made it to the last trade, and what else would be besides a bullpen booster. Raisel Iglesias has been decent in his second year with the Angels, having a 4.04 ERA and 16 saves. A huge plus is that since joining Atlanta is that he has been flawless, only giving up 1 hit in two innings of work for the world series champs. This was a 2 for 1 bullpen arm swap, and it makes sense. The veteran Jesse Chavez has a 3.06 ERA in 47 innings of work during his 14th year of being in the MLB. Lastly, Tucker Davidson has been smashed this year in his four starts, collecting a 1-3 record with a 7.91 ERA.

That just about wraps up my trade deadline news! I am sorry it took so long, I am only one person and not 50 people working on it like ESPN. So thanks for bearing with me! Hope to see you again soon!
