Looking at how good the new Mets signings are.

As we sit in a lockout, pondering when our beautiful sport of baseball will return to full action, I would like to finally take the time to talk about my favorite baseball teams signings. There are many and I am going to discuss how good of a player they were last year, and what their purpose will most likely be over the course of the 2022 season, when and if it starts. So lets get into it, and I will also show notable stats.
Max Scherzer
Team(s) Last Year: Nationals, traded to Dodgers at trade deadline
Stats from 2021: 15-4 record, 2.46 ERA, 236 SO, 0.86 WHIP
Role in Mets Rotation: Lethal Pitcher number 2
Max Scherzer coming to the Mets was not something we expected early on into free agency, it was expected for him to stay on the west coast. Little did we know, Steve Cohen was ready to drop a fat load of money to get Scherzer. I was in math class when this happened and I when I saw it I went crazy. Now we all know Max Scherzer has been one of the top pitchers in the league for a few years now, and to see him come pair up with yet another I would say top 3 pitcher in the league, is just something that creates a lethal rotation. I mean you could put DeGrom at one end and Scherzer at the other, but that is not what we are here to talk about. So Scherzer started off really well in Washington but I would see why he wanted the change of scenery to LA as Washington isn't much of a World Series contender anymore. Meanwhile in LA, he did amazing, and brought his team to the playoffs with ease. This new piece of the Mets rotation will be key to more Mets pitchers going longer in games.
Starling Marte
Team(s) Last Year: Marlins, traded to A's at trade deadline
Stats from 2021: .310 AVG, .383 OBP, .458 SLG, .841 OPS, 14 HR, 47 SB
Role in Mets Lineup: Full time starter
Starling Marte started out the season as your typical star of the team type of guy, and there was nobody really near him for that spot, as lots of guys were either a couple years in or just straight up rookies. Then he heads over to Oakland and boy oh boy does he make a statement. His performance in the second half of the season was probably the best performance I saw all season from anybody in that second half. You can debate all you want but if you even heard the slightest about his performances you were hooked on keeping up to date about him. Mets have wanted this man for years, ever since he started playing a lot with the Marlins, he has been near the top of the board for the Mets of players to get. With their new owner, they were successfully able to complete the needed moves to get this man on a contract, and somehow he is being payed less than twenty million a year. Marte will give that big boost to the outfield that we so desperately need at the moment, with one more outfield spot needing a proven good name, like Kris Bryant.
Eduardo Escobar
Team(s) Last Year: Arizona Diamond Backs, traded to the Brewers July 28 (2 days before deadline)
Stats from 2021: .253 AVG, .314 OBP, .472 SLG, .786 OPS, 28 HR, 1 SB
Role in Mets Lineup: Rotational player for roster depth
Escobar is generally a player for depth in all his seasons except a few with Minnesota, besides that he is a rotational player if needed. He could start at third over JD Davis but I expect JD to still start at third base. Now Eduardo's average is usually in the mid 250's so he is a consistent hitter, but besides that he doesn't seem to do much. He did not do that good last season, and did not seem to act like a player who would be key to a team, even though he did get on an all star team last year, still doesn't seem like he is necessary for the teams success. For most of the season I would just look at him as a guy in your DH slot or a pinch hitter, and a backup player if somebody gets injured.
Mark Canha
Team(s) Last Year: Oakland A's
Stats from 2021: .231 AVG, .358 OBP, .387 SLG, .746 OPS, 17 HR, 12 SB
Role in Mets Lineup: DH or backup player to give starters an off day
Canha seems to be an injury prone player because his games played each year vary a lot. Due to all of this and the possible Kris Bryant signing to come, I do not expect Canha to be used that much in the lineup and definitely not a key piece to the team's success this upcoming year. I do not have much to say about Canha since I have never really heard of who he is but in short he will not be that special as said, and I don't expect to see him play that much. That is all I really have to say.
With a couple signings to come from the Mets organization after the lockout, be on the lookout for a really scary team to play against once the season starts. I am very excited to finally watch a World Series possibility team for once in a long time, it makes me want to go to more games than usual. I hope everybody is excited as I am and Lets Go Mets!
